OpenExchange
platform provides standards based core infrastructure to exchange patient health information in a secure and timely manner, to advance the quality, safety and efficiency of healthcare delivery. The platform is a critical element of HIE infrastructure that provides clinicians and other members of the healthcare community with the right information at the right time by making patient information available across organizational boundaries. It facilitates and streamlines the sharing of patient information throughout an HIE community.
consists of open source projects that use as the set of fundamental requirements. is an initiative by healthcare professionals and industry to improve the way computer systems in healthcare share information. IHE promotes the coordinated use of established standards such as DICOM and HL7 to address specific clinical needs in support of optimal patient care. Systems developed in accordance with IHE standards are better able to communicate with one another and empower care providers to use information more effectively. The core set of sub-projects under include
- - which implements the Patient Identifier Cross-reference (PIX) Manager and Patient Demographics Query (PDQ) Supplier actors.
- - which implements the Cross-Document Sharing (XDS) Registry and Repository actors, as well as the Cross Community Access (XCA) Responding Gateway and Initiating Gateway actors.
- - which implements an Audit Record Repository of the IHE Audit Trail Node Authentication (ATNA) profile.
- - which implements the IHE Document Metadata Subscription profile.
OpenExchange and its sub-projects are the Open Health Tools Charter projects monitored by the Open Health Tools Board.
OpenExchange contains common objects, libraries and utilities such as audit logging, actor configuration, web services etc used by all its sub-projects. It also serves as a platform to assemble all the sub-projects to present a comprehensive HIE solution. Its focus is on the HIE community level instead of the individual component level, so it solves the problems regarding the integration of all the sub-projects as well as with external applications.
