IHE Integration Statements

Misys ConnectTM Exchange has software components needed to run a health information exchange, developed in open source, using open-standards. One of the guiding standards involved with the development of the platform is the Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) set of profiles. IHE is an initiative by healthcare professionals and industry to improve the way computer systems in healthcare share information. IHE promotes the coordinated use of established standards such as DICOM and HL7 to address specific clinical need in support of optimal patient care. Systems developed in accordance with IHE communicate with one another better, are easier to implement, and enable care providers to use information more effectively.

MOSS technical framework leverages IHE technical profiles to exchange medical summary documents across various source systems. Also, MOSS developers are active open source community members, voting members of the IHE and serve on the CCHIT standards workgroup for Health Information Exchange. As long as the partner organizations follow appropriate standards, MOSS will be able to exchange information with the partner systems.

In addition to providing standards-based Health Information Exchange HIE, MOSS also provides a light-weight, web-based portal that provides immediate access to end users who do not have an electronic health record (EHR). Misys ConnectTM Portal provides a secure exchange of patient clinical data with authorized users to advance the quality, safety and efficiency of healthcare delivery. Each of the participating systems in the community will submit an electronic health record document of the patient to the XDS Repository/Registry and Misys ConnectTM Portal aggregates and displays the documents to the users. Once the health record documents are viewed, the portal allows critical patient data to be exported in order for it to be imported and viewed inside the healthcare provider’s application; such as an electronic medical records or physician web portal or hospital electronic medical record system. MOSS platform is based on service oriented architecture (SOA) design and leverages web services interfaces. The architecture is scalable and extensible and allows additional value-add components to be deployed very easily on top of the portal. The portal also provides ‘clinical groupware’ (EMRlite like) functionality and can serve as an on-ramp for providers that are not quite ready to deploy an EHR. The Portal includes e-Prescribing, e-Referral services, secure messaging that allows personal messaging capabilities among providers and betweens providers and patients.
